My name is Sabine and for the school year of 2019-20 I will be on a Rotary Youth Exchange in Lyon, France. On the second to last day of school of my sophomore year I walked into my high school counselors office and asked "Do you think that I could do this?" She said "Oh! of course we can make that happen!" Before telling my parents I had decided that I would attempt to fill out the 14 page application for a year abroad through Rotary Youth Exchange. Although I have not embarked on my journey yet, the planning that has gone into it has been challenging. I graduated high school a whole year ahead of my class as a junior so that there would be no complications with my grades in school abroad. Now, I have about two months until I leave to enter a new world of culture, food, language, art, music, etc.

I am from a small town in Iowa, but I have always had the influence of my parents to make sure I appreciate the world around me. I knew I wanted to do an exchange when I realized that I could be doing more for my community and myself to help myself experience new things and then bring it back to America. As an aspiring journalist, I hope that this blog will serve for some of that as I will be posting as much of my experience as possible to share the stories I make and hear.
